Inside the Kwara Attack: Survivors Reveal How Terrorists Struck

Terror attack aftermath in a Kwara community as residents recount their ordeal

Survivors of the recent terrorist assault on the Woro community in Kwara State have shared chilling accounts of how the attack unfolded and the devastation it left behind, according to a report by Punch Nigeria.

Witnesses said the violence began around 5 p.m. on a Tuesday when hundreds of armed assailants on motorcycles descended on the village from nearby forests. The attackers, heavily armed with rifles and explosives, moved methodically through the town, forcing residents from their homes and opening fire.

According to local officials and survivors, the militants surrounded households, executed villagers, and burned buildings, including the Emir’s palace. Many motorists on the major road through the area were also targeted. Despite a brief helicopter presence, there was no effective intervention, and the violence continued late into the night and early hours of the following morning.

Residents described fleeing into bushes and farmlands in terror, with many being shot while attempting to escape. As of Friday, bodies were still being recovered from surrounding areas, and the estimated death toll continued to rise. Women and children were among those abducted during the attack.

Survivors said the forest areas around the community have long served as bases for well-armed groups, making villagers feel vulnerable and abandoned in the face of such coordinated violence.
