Nigeria’s political space is witnessing renewed excitement as Hon. Emeka Nwajiuba has officially entered the presidential race on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), making him the third aspirant to declare after former Vice President, H.E. Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and former Anambra State Governor, H.E. Peter Obi.
Hon. Nwajiuba, born on August 20, 1967, is a seasoned lawyer, academic, and politician. He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1989 after graduating from the Nigerian Law School and also holds a PhD. He previously served as Nigeria’s Minister of Education, bringing executive experience at the federal level to his political profile.
He has an extensive legislative and political background, having served as Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Land, Housing and Works between 1999 and 2003. He later contested the Imo State governorship election in 2003 and 2007 under the All Peoples Party (APP), and again in 2011 as the candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC).
In 2013, Nwajiuba played a key role in Nigeria’s political realignment as Secretary of the Constitution Drafting Committee that produced the merger constitution which led to the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Political observers note that his blend of legislative experience, executive service, and intellectual depth positions him as a notable contender, with the capacity to contribute solutions to Nigeria’s current national challenges.
