On Sunday night (around 11:30 pm), suspected bandits attacked the Danhonu II community in New Millennium City, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, abducting seven residents amid a surge in insecurity in the region. Those taken include two families: Yahaya Yusuf, his wife Latifat Yusuf, and their sons Abdulgafar and Abdulqudus, as well as Mrs Abdulrazak Jimoh and two of her children.
In response, residents mobilised on Monday, marching to the Millennium City Divisional Police Headquarters. They blocked the main access road, sang solidarity songs, and called on authorities for urgent security intervention to stem the relentless pattern of kidnappings. Protesters said the latest abduction added to at least 11 cases recorded in the community over recent months, and alleged that non-indigenes are often targeted, fueling fear and suspicion among locals.
The Kaduna State Police confirmed receipt of the distress call and said officers, alongside soldiers, were deployed but arrived after the attackers had fled. The state police commissioner has met with community leaders and pledged to consider establishing a police outpost to improve security.
This protest underscores growing frustration among residents as kidnappings become more frequent in parts of northern Nigeria.
