The political atmosphere in Imeko, Imeko-Afon Local Government Area of Ogun State, came alive with excitement as hundreds of members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other political parties officially defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during a massive political gathering attended by party leaders, stakeholders and supporters.
The event, described by many as one of the largest political realignments in the area in recent times, was led by the Ogun State PDP Governorship Candidate, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, alongside the PDP Ogun State Chairman, Hon. Dr. Abayomi Tella, the PDP Ogun West Senatorial Candidate, Hon. Babatunde Ogunola (Tomo), members of the PDP Ogun West Elders' Council, party executives and numerous grassroots leaders.
Supporters filled the venue with songs, cheers and waving party flags as the new members were formally welcomed into the PDP family, signaling what party leaders described as a growing movement for change ahead of future elections.
Defectors Cite Lack of Development
Several of the defectors explained that their decision to leave the APC and other political parties was influenced by what they described as the absence of meaningful developmental projects in their communities and the prevailing economic hardship experienced by many residents.
According to them, years of inadequate infrastructure, limited economic opportunities, unemployment among youths and poor public services have left many communities yearning for a new political direction.
The defectors expressed confidence that the PDP offers a credible alternative capable of delivering inclusive governance, sustainable development and improved welfare for the people of Ogun State.
Adebutu Promises Inclusive Governance
Addressing the enthusiastic crowd, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu thanked the new members for their confidence in the PDP and assured them that the party remains committed to building an administration that will carry every community along.
He pledged that a PDP-led government would focus on rural development, quality education, improved healthcare, youth empowerment, job creation, better infrastructure and economic growth across all parts of Ogun State.
Adebutu stressed that no community would be marginalized under his leadership, promising transparent governance and people-oriented policies that would directly improve the lives of ordinary citizens.
"The PDP believes in inclusive governance where every citizen has a voice and every community benefits from development," he assured supporters.
He further urged party members to remain united and continue mobilising support at the grassroots as preparations gradually begin for the next electoral cycle.
Dr. Tella Officially Receives New Members
The official reception of the defectors was conducted by the PDP Ogun State Chairman, Hon. Dr. Abayomi Tella, who formally admitted the new members into the party.
His announcement was greeted with loud applause and celebrations as supporters welcomed the latest additions to the PDP.
Dr. Tella assured the defectors that they would enjoy equal rights and opportunities within the party while encouraging them to participate actively in strengthening the PDP across Ogun State.

The presence of the PDP Ogun West Senatorial Candidate, Hon. Babatunde Ogunola (Tomo), added further significance to the event.
Tomo interacted with party supporters and community leaders while reaffirming his commitment to effective representation, grassroots development and improved opportunities for the people of Ogun West.
He emphasized the importance of unity, peaceful political participation and collective efforts towards building a prosperous future for the senatorial district.
