President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the official posting of 65 Nigerian ambassadors and high commissioners to diplomatic missions around the world, marking a major step toward strengthening Nigeria’s foreign diplomacy and international relations.
The ambassadorial postings include 34 non-career envoys and 31 career diplomats who were previously screened and confirmed by the Nigerian Senate. The new ambassadors will represent Nigeria across several strategic countries and international institutions.
Boosting Nigeria’s Global Diplomatic Presence
According to a statement from the Presidency, the ambassadorial deployment is part of the Federal Government’s plan to expand Nigeria’s diplomatic influence, deepen bilateral cooperation, and promote international trade and investment.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been directed to begin an induction programme for the ambassadors-designate to prepare them for their diplomatic assignments.
Before the ambassadors can officially resume duties, host countries must grant diplomatic agrément, which is the formal approval required for ambassadors to serve in foreign missions.

Several prominent Nigerian political figures, technocrats, and career diplomats were assigned to strategic global locations.
- Femi Fani-Kayode – Ambassador to Germany
- Reno Omokri – Ambassador to Mexico
- Mahmood Yakubu – Ambassador to Qatar
- Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau – Ambassador to China
- Okezie Ikpeazu – Ambassador to Spain
- Isaac Folorunso Adewole – Ambassador to Canada
- Ita Enang – Ambassador to South Africa
- Jimoh Ibrahim – Permanent Representative to the United Nations
Other career diplomats were posted to countries including India, Ghana, Egypt, Belgium, Switzerland, Iran, Kenya, Senegal, and Thailand, among others.
Strengthening Nigeria’s Foreign Policy Strategy
Analysts believe the latest ambassadorial postings signal a renewed commitment by the Tinubu administration to pursue economic diplomacy, security cooperation, and global partnerships.
With a stronger diplomatic network across multiple continents, Nigeria hopes to attract foreign investment, strengthen trade relations, and reinforce its leadership role in Africa and global affairs.
The ambassadors are expected to begin their assignments after completing the official induction process and receiving diplomatic clearance from their host nations.
