The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued a final reminder to eligible Nigerians to complete their voter registration before the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise officially ends on Sunday, July 26, 2026. The commission urged citizens who are yet to register or those seeking to transfer or update their voter information to do so before the deadline.
The reminder comes as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum across the country. INEC stressed that only registered voters with valid Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) will be eligible to participate in the elections.
Eligible Nigerians Should Register Now
According to INEC, the registration exercise remains open to:
- First-time voters who have attained the age of 18.
- Citizens seeking transfer of their voting locations.
- Voters requesting correction of personal information.
- Those replacing lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
The commission also reminded Nigerians who have relocated to another city or state not to register afresh but to apply for a Transfer of Registration through designated registration centres or the online portal.
Online Self-Service Portal Simplifies Registration
To improve accessibility and reduce congestion at registration centres, INEC recently introduced an online self-service registration platform. The portal enables eligible Nigerians to begin their voter registration, update personal details, transfer registration, or request replacement of lost PVCs before completing biometric verification.
The initiative forms part of the commission's digital transformation efforts aimed at making voter registration faster, more transparent, and more convenient.
Avoid Last-Minute Rush
INEC has advised Nigerians not to wait until the final hours of the registration exercise. Registration centres often experience heavy crowds as deadlines approach, increasing waiting times and the possibility of delays.
The commission said registration centres will operate from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., including weekends, until the exercise officially closes on Sunday.

The Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise is essential for maintaining an updated and credible national voters' register. It enables INEC to register newly eligible voters, process transfers, replace damaged PVCs, and correct errors in voter records.
