The Ogun State Government has announced plans to relocate an illegal motor park and end street trading activities around the busy Sango Tollgate corridor as part of measures to reduce frequent road accidents in the area.
The decision follows growing concerns over the rising number of crashes recorded along the Ogun–Lagos border, a major transport route used daily by commuters, commercial buses and traders operating along the roadside.
According to the state Commissioner for Environment, the directive was issued by Governor Dapo Abiodun after reports of recurring accidents and traffic chaos around the tollgate.
Officials from the Ministry of Environment and the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government recently carried out an inspection of the area to identify the causes of the persistent accidents.
The inspection revealed that interstate buses operating from an illegal motor park and traders selling goods along the road have significantly contributed to traffic congestion and dangerous road conditions.
Authorities noted that the roadside activities have existed for over two decades, gradually transforming the tollgate area into an unregulated transport hub.
To restore order and improve road safety in Ogun State, the government plans to relocate the illegal motor park and remove traders from the roadside.
The state government will also carry out environmental sanitation and clear obstructions around the tollgate to ensure smoother traffic flow along the Lagos–Ogun corridor.
Officials say enforcement teams will be deployed to prevent commercial vehicles and traders from returning to the location once the relocation exercise begins.
The Sango Tollgate axis is one of the busiest entry points between Lagos and Ogun states, used daily by thousands of commuters travelling to work and business locations.
Authorities believe the planned relocation will significantly reduce accidents, improve traffic management and restore order to one of the most congested transport corridors in the region.
The move is part of broader efforts by the Ogun State Government to enforce environmental laws and regulate roadside commercial activities that pose risks to motorists and pedestrians.
