Iran missile strikes on UAE oil facility as Nigerians are reported injured amid escalating Middle East tensions

The escalating Middle East conflict has begun to affect Nigerians abroad after Iran launched missile attacks on the United Arab Emirates (UAE), leaving several foreign nationals  including Nigerians  injured.

Authorities in the UAE confirmed that more than 140 people were injured after missiles and drones struck parts of the country in the latest escalation between Iran and its regional rivals.

The victims reportedly include expatriates from several countries, with Nigerians among those affected as falling debris and intercepted missile fragments caused injuries in populated areas.

Emergency services in the UAE responded quickly as air defence systems intercepted incoming missiles. However, debris from the destroyed projectiles reportedly fell into residential and commercial areas.

Officials said most of the injuries were caused by shrapnel, falling missile fragments, and panic during the attacks. The incident has raised serious concerns among the Nigerian diaspora living and working across the Gulf region.

The UAE hosts a large number of Nigerian workers, entrepreneurs, and traders, particularly in cities like Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Following the attacks, many Nigerians living in the UAE expressed concerns over their safety as tensions in the Middle East continue to escalate.

Authorities have advised residents to remain alert and follow official safety instructions whenever air raid alerts are issued.

The missile strikes come amid a widening confrontation involving Iran, Israel, the United States, and several Gulf states, raising fears of a broader regional conflict.

Analysts warn that prolonged instability in the Middle East could have serious global consequences, particularly for oil markets, aviation routes, and international trade.

The Gulf region is a major hub for global energy supply, meaning any escalation could trigger rising oil prices and economic ripple effects worldwide.

For Nigeria, the situation highlights the vulnerability of its citizens abroad during geopolitical crises and the importance of diplomatic monitoring and consular support.

As tensions continue to rise, global leaders are calling for restraint and diplomatic solutions to prevent the conflict from escalating into a wider regional war.
